WHS Seniors: If you are interested in giving a speech at graduation, you will need to submit it to Ms. Wounded Head or Ms. Nieuwsma by Thursday, April 27 at 3:30pm. Auditions will be held on Friday, April 28 at 7:00am in the Little Theatre. A flyer regarding guidelines for a graduation speech can be found in Student Services.

WHS Senior Joseph Baumann was announced as a 2023 Davis-Bahcall Scholar by the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF). This program introduces students to a variety of STEM disciplines and allows students to spend four weeks exploring universities and laboratories for an opportunity to see what professionals in the field do every day. Congratulations Joseph!

The School Board has voted to move the last day of student classes to Friday, May 26, 2023 - requiring students to make up two of the five days missed due to weather. Staff will report through Friday, June 2, 2023.

Prom ticket sales begin today and continue through Friday, April 21st. Tickets will be sold in the commons during Warrior Halftime and cost $25 each.

It’s the final day of the South Dakota Week of Work and today we’re turning our focus to the importance of job fairs. Job fairs play a crucial role in connecting students directly to local businesses and industry leaders, and in the Sioux Falls School District, they happen throughout the year! These events are a win-win for students and businesses alike; students get the opportunity to visit with possible future employers, and businesses get to meet potential future employees. These events have a bolstering effect on the workforce in South Dakota in different ways. For example, in the pictures shown here, students are attending a summer job fair. This connects high school students of all ages to opportunities to find employment over the summer, which can in turn expose them to opportunities they may like to explore further as possible career paths. Job fairs are organized by our local Department of Labor Career Launch Advisor and happen periodically throughout the year right inside our schools, so students don’t need to go out of their way at all to get connected. Relationships like these, that are a major benefit both to students and employers, are what the South Dakota Week of Work is all about. When students are exposed to opportunities that help them think about their future career choices, and employers are able to fill the roles they need to succeed in their businesses, everybody comes out on top! Throughout the week we’ve been introducing you to the many ways in which the Sioux Falls School District teaches students about the importance of planning for their careers after high school. The South Dakota Week of Work is an important tool we use to highlight these events and programs, but it doesn’t end here! Our school counselors, success coordinators, teachers and staff are always on the lookout for ways to help our students prepare for life after high school. #SDWeekofWork

Congratulations to the following competitors who placed in the top 3 in their events at the SD HOSA State Leadership Conference (Future Health Professionals) and qualify to compete at HOSA's International Leadership Conference in June: Ari Edwards, Dianah Khatthanam, Siyanne Redda and Joe Bumann! The cadets/students in the WHS Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) program earned a 91% on their JROTC Program of Accreditation (JPA) Inspection on March 29th, 2023. This inspection accredits the program for three years, at which time it will be conducted again. The JROTC program would like to thank all the teachers and staff that supported them throughout this process. Way to go Warriors!

Best Buddies hosted their 1st annual Best Buddies Prom on Saturday, April 1st at WHS. This was an incredible event and everyone had a great time! Way to go Warriors!

Best Buddies are hosting their 2nd annual Inclusion Week March 27th - 31st. Stop by the Best Buddies table during the week for pledge cards, buttons and to sign the "Spread the Word" banner. They will also host dress-up days as follows: Monday-dress as your favorite season Tuesday-dress as a prince, princess, dragon or your favorite fantasy character Wednesday - pajama day Thursday - jersey or activewear day Friday - wear disability colors with leis

Congratulations to the spring WHS Academic Letter recipients! We will be recognizing students who have attained a 3.5 GPA or above for the past 2 consecutive semesters on March 27th-29th. We will honor seniors on Monday, juniors on Tuesday and sophomores on Wednesday. Way to go Warriors!

Washington High School Show Choir auditions will be Tuesday, March 28th from 6-9pm in the WHS mini gym. Audition materials can be found at whschoirs.org or in room C110.

WHS All Activities Night is scheduled for Thursday, March 23 from 6:00-7:30pm. This event is for all incoming 9th-12th grade students and their parents/guardians who are interested in Athletics/Fine Arts for the 2022-2023 school year.
